Reward now offered for help finding 19yo student Martin Roberts

Police this week said they will be extending their search for James Martin Roberts "across the state" but added that the 19-year-old doesn't drive or own a vehicle.

A report that he was seen over the weekend "in the Trout Lake region of Blue Ridge Parkway" was fully investigated -- on land and by air -- but turned out to be erroneous.

However, the Boone Police Department is "continuing to  develop leads" and "diligently" tracking the young man's whereabouts.

Martin Roberts is a slender blond-haired Caucasian male standing about 5-foot-10 and weighing around 150 pounds.

He attends Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute, but allegedly was last sighted around noontime on the Appalachian State University campus near ASU's Convocation Center.

That day Roberts is said to have been wearing an Appalachian State windbreaker, khaki shorts, gray New Balance sneakers, a black shirt and a white golf hat.

A $1000 reward is now being offered by High County Crime Stoppers to help solve his missing persons case. Anyone with information about it is asked to call (828) 268-6959 or (828) 737-0125.

Tips can also be emailed to www[dot]tipsubmit[dot]com/webtips.aspx?AgencyID=1251 or by sending a text to 274637 (CRIMES) and adding 'NCTIP' within the message.

  1. Was this ever investigated as a Smiley Face Killer murder? That was the first thing I thought of when I was watching a show about his death on the ID channel. This (and the other murders) are horrific. I think the police don’t see men as possible victims like they do women. Many prayers for these families.
